Summer Internship
Overview
This program provides students with an intensive exposure to the tourism workplace. Positions and applications are coordinated and monitored through the School’s Industrial Training Office.
The main objective is to enable to students to obtain practical, real-life experience. The training program, comprised of a minimum of 60 work days, takes place during the summer period.
This is a noncredit course (8 ECTS credit course); however, “satisfactory” completion is required for graduation.
This course is a prerequisite for the THM 310 Semester Internship course.
For placement, students need to read the announcements and follow the instructions issued by the Industrial Training Office.

Eligibility for Application
In order to be eligible to apply for the Summer Internship (THM 300), you should be in at least your third (in the case of irregular students) or fourth semester (in the case of regular students) of the department’s curriculum at the time of application.

If you are eligible, you can use the application form for internship to apply. Please fill in the form and bring it to the Industrial Training Officer, Ms. Özgen Çakıoğlu.
Evaluation Criteria
This is a noncredit course. However, you must receive an “S” (Satisfactory) based on the following:
- Submission of your Internship Portfolio (Staj Dosyası); this is a prerequisite to receiving a grade of “satisfactory.” At the end of your internship, you must submit your portfolio to the Industrial Training Officer Ms. Özgen Çakıoğlu. If you fail to do so, you will receive a grade of “U” (Unsatisfactory).
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
THM 300 Summer Internship is a noncredit course; however, you must receive an evaluation of “satisfactory” to graduate from the program.
Semester Internship
Overview
Students spend one full semester working in the industry. This provides the students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge they have gained to date in a real-life environment, and to observe, document, and evaluate the operations of a working department.
During their internship students will be required to prepare five interim reports identifying the factors contributing to the success and/or problems of the establishment.
At the end of the semester, each student will appear before a jury of instructors and answer questions to further assess her/his progress and knowledge.

Eligibility for Application
In order to be eligible to apply for the Semester Internship (THM 310), you must:
- Having successfully completed all first and second year THM curriculum courses, except for TURK XXX, HIST XXX, GE 100, GE 250 and GE 251 courses, OR Having successfully completed all first year THM curriculum courses, except for TURK XXX and GE 100 courses AND having completed a minimum of 63 Bilkent Credits;
- Having successfully completed THM 300 Summer Internship;
- Having successfully completed minimum 5 semesters within THM Department;
- Having a CGPA of minimum 1.80 by the end of the last semester prior to THM 310 Semester Internship.

Evaluation Criteria and Weight Percentages
This is a 9-credit (20 ECTS credit) course. You will be graded based on the following evaluation criteria:
- Attendance at the orientation meeting before the internship: 5%
- Five interim reports: 7% each; 35% in total
- Evaluation by the industry supervisor: 25%
- Final jury interview: 35%
Submission of your Internship Portfolio (Staj Dosyası) is a prerequisite to receiving a letter grade. Before undergoing your interview, you must submit your portfolio to the Industrial Training Officer, Ms. Özgen Çakıoğlu. If you do not submit your portfolio, you will receive an “I” (Incomplete) grade.
You must register for a section of the course at the beginning of the semester; you will receive an email from your section instructor containing further details about the required five interim reports. These reports should be submitted via Moodle.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
The THM 310 Semester Internship cannot be performed in the last semester of the student’s study in the department.
A student may request to extend the THM 310 Semester Internship if the organization where s/he is working would like the student to continue her/his internship.
